President’s Message

January 16, 2012

Dear Fellow Court Reporters, Students and Associates:

Hello and welcome to the Coastal Bend Court Reporters Association.  My name is Leonor Villarreal and I am the newly elected President of CBCRA.  I would like to also welcome you officially to 2012.  This is going to be an exciting year!  I would like to personally invite you to participate in a very important part of your job as a court reporter, and that is to join your professional association.

It is my belief that every January 1st gives us an opportunity to begin again, to make some goals and to make every effort to make them a reality.  The seeds that were sown back on May 20, 1978, when this association was formed with the goal of having a platform for the court reporters to face the issues of the day and provide continuing education for its members is still alive and well.

The seed changes in technology that were planted back in the youth of our association and that have become what they are today, have made our job a lot easier.  I remember the days of the triple copy paper and the Dictaphone sitting on our desks.  Today we carry our offices with us and our work is almost done at the end of the day.  CBCRA and the knowledge that you gain by learning from our association can only enhance your production and your knowledge.  Our state association, TCRA is the guardian of our profession.  They look after our interests.  All this being said, now is the time!  This is it!  Do not delay a day!  Join CBCRA and TCRA today.  Every member makes a difference and by doing that, the whole association will benefit.

The most important part of CBCRA are our members.  Members contribute by attending meetings, taking committee assignments, and from the membership come the future leaders of our Association.   We have over 50 court reporters in and around the Corpus Christi area.  I hope I am not being too optimistic when I say that our goal should be 100% membership participation.  It involves hard work and cooperation.  This goal can be doable!

I can speak for our officers and committee chairs when I say that we are excited for this New Year 2012 and we are eager and ready to work for you.  We are full of new ideas.  Will you please join us and help us make those ideas a reality.

We will be meeting at a new location.  That location is Portis Country Kitchen, located at the Wells Fargo Bank Tower, 615 North Upper Broadway.  The restaurant has a meeting room inside the main dining area.  We will have privacy and good food.

Please find the 2012 CBCRA calendar of meetings and events and a membership application on the website for your convenience.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve you as your president.

Sincerely,

Leonor Villarreal
